This year, 2019, we commemorate the Independence Day of the Homeland in the midst of the most ferocious US aggression, carried out with the complicity of Venezuelan political and economic forces.
In this context, the profound economic and social crisis, caused in large part by the US aggression, but also by errors, omissions and ethical, political and programmatic deviations of the political leadership, seriously impacts primarily on the most vulnerable sectors of our people.
From La Corriente, today, the day of the Homeland, we ratify our commitment to the defense of peace, democracy and the sovereignty of Venezuela. Day by day we work hard to contribute to these fundamental tasks, in the construction of civic-military unity, in the struggle for food production, in the deepening of participatory and protagonist democracy, in the communicational battle, in the organization and multiplication of solidarity at the grassroots base of our people.
On July 5, we call on all the patriotic forces, from the PSUV, the institutions and the leadership, through the parties, the communes, the peasant councils, the workers’ and women’s councils, and all the spaces where #LaGentePower is forged, to continue the consolidation of the strongest unity.
In order to do this, it is essential that we make every effort to defend the conquests achieved as a people and reorient the course of the country towards the horizon charted by the Bolivarian revolution. In that direction there are central tasks:
1) the battle for the productive recovery of the country and the democratization of the economy, which implies the revision and rectification of economic policy as a result of a serious and broad national debate with all sectors,
2) the deepening of spaces and mechanisms for the full exercise of revolutionary democracy and the overcoming of clientelist practices and the tutelage of popular power
3) review undemocratic and elitist practices of political leadership in order to expand internal democracy and collective leadership mechanisms,
4) redouble all efforts to alleviate the majority weight of the crisis and the blockade that has fallen mainly on the poorest and most vulnerable sectors.
We are certain that progress in that direction will lead us sooner rather than later to victory over the internal and ezternal forces that are determined to put an end to our independence, our sovereignty and the very foundations of our Nation.
