Communiqué of La Corriente: Comprehensive Transformative Counteroffensive Against Imperialist Aggression

The attempt to overthrow constitutional President Nicolás Maduro and the Bolivarian revolution, which is openly and frontally led by the US, has continued its escalation. With a simultaneous offensive on all flanks (the economic, diplomatic, military, media/psychological and internal political), the center of aggression is now set on achieving the break that will allow the self-proclaimed Guaidó to have some way of translating what he declares into concrete facts. The fracture of the Bolivarian National Armed Force, of the institutions and public powers, of the political unity of chavismo, are clear objectives that the plan has been drawn up, until now without success.

In that context, there were street mobilizations yesterday, both on the part of Chavismo and the patriotic forces and on the part of the coup right wing and in favor of U.S. interference and intervention. Chavismo demonstrated that it continues to have an important capacity for mobilization, organization and unity, mainly on a popular basis. The right wing, for its part, showed that it fundamentally mobilizes its hard and historical social base: that openly anti-national and pro-U.S. middle and upper classes that have always supported the coup-plotting and authoritarian adventures.

In addition to the measurement of forces, Guaidó announced the prompt arrival of the so-called humanitarian aid, with three collection points, as the next action of pressure and threat, and the government announced what appears to be the beginning of an internal political counteroffensive: the beginning of Bolivarian open councils as a method of popular consultation for the holding of parliamentary elections.

The Bolívar y Zamora Revolutionary Current clearly expresses its support for this political initiative as a way to politically reverse the current siege situation. We already make public that our strength, our militancy, is incorporated into the process with the usual discipline, dedication and enthusiasm. We believe that the political process announced should be part of an integral transforming counteroffensive, which encompasses the economic front, the defense of sovereignty and peace, and the political front.

On the economic front, it is essential to implement decisive actions to boost production, with a plan of productive credits for small and medium enterprises, for which it is necessary to oblige the national private bank to direct an important part of the credit portfolio towards that sector of the economy, as well as towards the social and communal sector. In addition, a policy of reduction of import controls and expansion of the exchange rate policy is required to increase the import capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as to ensure that remittances are injected as foreign currency into the national economy.

In the line of defense of sovereignty and peace it is necessary to accelerate the plans of organization and preparation of the people for national defense. The organization and operational capacity of the Bolivarian National Militia and its articulation with all the organized people must be deepened and optimized. It is the massive incorporation of the people and their active participation that is the greatest guarantee for the defense of the nation.

Politically, we believe it is necessary to call for the formation of a national movement for the defense of sovereignty, democracy and peace, against U.S. interference and the servile right. This should be an honestly broad call, capable of bringing together the efforts of all national forces, including opposition forces, that reject foreign intervention, that dissent from the overwhelmingly servile and procolonial character of those who lead the current offensive against the country, and that repudiate the possibility of leading the country into a violent confrontation. As for the electoral process itself, we propose that part of the candidates, at least 50%, be elected by the rank and file of the party, as a way of opening the way to the need to renew leaderships, strengthen the morale and fighting capacity of the people, and continue a process of deepening revolutionary, participative and protagonist democracy.

In complex scenarios of crisis and attack on the revolution, Comandante Chávez always opened the floodgates to popular participation and protagonism and knew how to transform setbacks and complex scenarios into opportunities to advance in revolutionary terms. His method, his tactics, his strategy, always based on the greatest confidence in the people and their conscience, is there as a fundamental part of his legacy. Let us be consistent with that legacy by defending it, now that imperialism and the local right are deploying all their forces against it.
