The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly rejects the unilateral, arbitrary and illegal measures announced by the government of Donald Trump in order to take control of bank accounts in the name of the Venezuelan Government and the Central Bank of Venezuela, opened in financial institutions located in the United States.
There is no other way to describe this action than the shameless theft from a sovereign nation of the resources destined for the well-being of its people, revealing yet another side of the coup d’état plan activated directly from the White House, in order to overthrow President Nicolás Maduro and to seize the financial and natural resources of the Venezuelan People.
Abusive actions such as these should alert the international community to the legal insecurity of the U.S. financial system, in which the rules of the game are violated by the government itself, without due process mechanisms or minimum guarantees for capital and international investments.
This act of piracy by the Trump Administration is added to the growing list of mistakes made by his bizarre government in relation to its international obligations in commercial, environmental, nuclear and now financial matters, conduct that seriously undermines his efforts to reorder international geopolitics on a whim and by force.
The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, will evaluate and take the corresponding legal measures to confront this new aggression and this inocultable imperial obsession to take control over Venezuela’s oil, mineral and financial resources. The Venezuelan people will continue to stand firm in defense of its Constitution, which is the main guarantee of its democracy, its sovereignty and its freedom.
