Venezuela expressed in a statement its condemnation of the unilateral coercive measures announced this Friday by the US government against Venezuelan State officials, with the intention of disturbing the environment prior to the elections on Sunday, May 20th.
“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly condemns and repudiates the unilateral coercive measures that the US regime has announced on May 18th against high officials of the Venezuelan State, with the sole purpose of obscuring the electoral process that in a few hours will be celebrated in a civil manner and in peace in the national territory to elect the President of the Republic and the regional and local legislatures, “says the document published by the Chancellor of the Republic, Jorge Arreaza, on Twitter.
The Venezuelan State denounces that such measures are part of the systematic campaign against the nation and lack of legal basis, so “constitute a flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations, the basic principles governing civilized relations between sovereign States”

“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly condemns and repudiates the unilateral coercive measures that the US regime has announced on May 18th against high officials of the Venezuelan State, with the sole purpose of obscuring the electoral process that in a few hours will be celebrated in a civil manner and in peace in the national territory to elect the President of the Republic and the regional and local legislatures.
These unilateral measures, framed in the systematic campaign of aggression of the supremacist regime of President Donald Trump against our country, lack any legal basis, constitute a flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations, of the basic principles that govern civilized relations between Sovereign States, and reflect the level of desperation prevailing in the ruling elites of the decadent imperial power before the will of the brave Venezuelan people to build their future freely and without foreign interference, in full exercise of their inalienable right to self-determination.
It is not surprising that on the eve of a new electoral process, where the Venezuelan people will come out to defend their democracy against the imperial aggressions that seek to derail it, once again the US regime, in turn, tries to sabotage the elections by using illegal measures of coercion, with the purpose of attacking Venezuelan democracy and against the peace and stability of our country.
In this sense, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela denounces in the most forceful and categorical manner before the international community this new attack by the supremacist, racist and warlike regime of the United States of America against the Homeland of Bolívar, in its eagerness to fail to subdue the glorious Venezuelan people, and to try, with their threat, to subordinate us to their unacceptable colonial designs.
We reiterate that it will not be in Washington where the fate of Venezuelans will be decided. We are a free and independent People that reject the aggression of any order promoted by another State when the dignity and the sovereign right of the Venezuelan people to decide their destiny is at stake.”
The Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza, by means of the new sanctions imposed by the State Government With the electoral process on May 20th , said on Monday that with the electoral process on May 20th the Venezuelan people strengthens democracy and demonstrates that it will not be intimidated by any kind of coercive measures,
After concluding a meeting with representatives of the African Union at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic, in Caracas, he reported that US President Donald Trump took “new sanctions against the Venezuelan public debt, against Venezuelan bonds” so that the “State does not have the ability to liquidate assets in US territory. ”
He denounced that the US wants to continue forcing illegal measures and in disregard of international law to twist the Venezuelan people’s arms.
“The Venezuelan people showed yesterday that not only their arm is firm, but tthey are in a great muscle to strengthen their democracy, their independence, their sovereignty and that there is no type of restrictive measure, of coercive measure, unilateral, any kind of pressure – not even from other powers, from that commander in chief who threatens the use of force with the most powerful exercise – there is no way to intimidate the Bolivarian people, the Venezuelan people, “he said.
For this reason, he referred the need to consolidate the unity with the sovereign and independent countries and thus face the interventionist actions of the USA.
“We will continue with our friends of the world, with this great homeland that is humanity, we will continue to open the way for freedom in each of the regions of this immense homeland that is humanity,” he said.
On Sunday, a total of 9,132,655 voted to elect the President of the Republic and members of the legislative councils. The candidate of the Broad Front of the Nation, Nicolás Maduro, won the presidential elections by obtaining 6,190,612 votes.
Executive declares US Charge d’Affaires in Venezuela persona non grata
The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, declared the charge d’affaires of the United States (USA) in Venezuela, Todd Robinson, and embassy advisor, Brian Naranjo, persona non grata as a mechanism of protest against the unilateral sanctions applied by the American government against the nation.
The order demanded the mandatory withdrawal of US officials from Venezuelan territory in a period not exceeding 48 hours.
President Maduro indicated that Robinson and Naranjo acted as “conspirators”, committing interventionist actions, meddling in the internal affairs of Venezuela.
“They do not understand that Venezuela is sovereign and free,” the president said in a joint radio and television broadcast.
He reiterated that the South American nation is the victim of a threat never seen before and that he became the most threatened and attacked President in history but that neither sanctions, threats nor conspiracies will not stop the course towards a productive Venezuela that will overcome its challenges.
