The Deteriorating Health of Hannibal Qaddafi Requires His Immediate, Unconditional Release

Viva Libya!

According to reports from Beirut, Lebanon,  Hannibal Qaddafi’s health is deteriorating at an alarming rate.

Hannibal was abducted in Damascus by members of the Amal Movement on December 11, 2015, while under the protection of the Syrian government.

I stated at that time,

“Hannibal Gaddafi was abducted in Damascus earlier today by members of the Amal Movement. In contravention to international law, he was detained without charges, tortured, interrogated, then transferred to Beirut where he was delivered to Lebanese authorities.”

Quoting the Popular Front for the Liberation of Libya,

On January 24, 2017, it was reported that Judge Ghassan Khoury charged the Lebanese judiciary with contempt and ordered that all charges against Hannibal Qaddafi be revoked. He declared Hannibal was innocent of the crimes attributed to him and that he was entitled to the basic right to defend himself in court.

Thus far, all efforts of the Libyan Tribes and the Syrian government to obtain Hannibal’s release have failed. His detention and abduction were a violation of both international and Syrian law.

This sordid action against an innocent man brings other factors to light as it exposes the ignominy of the individuals and organizations behind this crime.

There is no longer doubt that the relationship between the Amal Movement, Hezbollah and the Muslim Brotherhood is one of mutual respect. Initially the GNC (Muslim Brotherhood government in Tripoli, Libya) were in friendly negotiations with these entities to have Hannibal extradited from Beirut in exchange for a substantial sum of money.

Their betrayal exposes the moral destitution, the hypocrisy, of Hezbollah and the Amal Movement, who on the one hand claim to fight terrorism in Syria while backing terrorism in Libya.

And this dark treachery did not begin with the arbitrary arrest and detention of Hannibal Qaddafi. During the 2011 NATO war against Libya, to their eternal shame, Hezbollah and Iran openly supported NATO’s proxy armies (Al Qaeda, Daesh, LIFG) in their criminal destruction of a sovereign nation that threatened no one.

The continued detention, physical and psychological torture of Hannibal Qaddafi is a crime that the international community of conscience must strongly condemn.

All efforts must be made to obtain his immediate, unconditional release.
