The Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity expresses its deepest concern about the situation of Milagro Sala, a member of Parlasur and Argentine social leader who has been imprisoned since early this year. Her imprisonment comes by order of Gerardo Morales, the governor of the province of Jujuy, who responds to the ruling Cambiemos coalition.
Milagro has recently been held incommunicada, isolated, and unable to receive visits. This development compelled her to start a hunger strike to expose the seriousness of the situation to international public opinion. The Executive Secretariat of REDH, composed of brothers and sisters of Latin America, the United States and Europe, protest this arbitrary punishment that the social leader is suffering. It is obviously an explicit “pay back” from the Argentina of Macri. The REDH calls upon the international community to pay attention to this violation of human rights. It is an emblematic case where a Congresswoman from a South American Parliament has being deprived of her freedom in violation of her most basic human rights. We call on all intellectuals, artists, and social and political organizations from around the world to make their voices heard and to promote international solidarity with Milagro Sala.
