Biryukov: The Ghost Brigade will continue to carry out its mission

Colleagues of Ghost Brigade Commander Alexei Mozgovoi, who was killed near Mikhailovka, said that the unit’s soldiers will continue to fulfill their mission.

“If the enemy suddenly decides to be happy, then it’s for nothing. Such things do not cause fear, but hatred. This is another great figure in an account that will be paid, sooner or later,” said the first deputy commander of the Ghost Brigade, Pyotr Biryukov.

An investigation team continues to work on the scene of Mozgovoi’s murder. “At 17:50 there was an armed attack on three cars carrying representatives of the Ghost Brigade. Mozgovoi, the Ghost Brigade commander, died at the scene from gunshot wounds, along with his bodyguards, driver and press secretary,” said the head of the investigation department of Lugansk People’s Republic Prosecutor-General Leonid Tkachenko’s office. “There was a firecracker, which distracted the driver’s attention, then firing began,” he added.

Ghost Brigade commander and one of the militia leaders of the LNR Alexei Mozgovoi was killed on Saturday, May 23. Near Mikhailovka, Ukrainian saboteurs were waiting in ambush for his car. Under mortar and machine-gun fire, Mozgovoi and his companions were seriously wounded. Seven people were killed, including the commander of Ghost.

Address by deputy commanders of Mozgovoi’s Ghost Brigade

The deputies of Ghost Brigade Commander Alexei Mozgovoi, who died yesterday on the highway between Lugansk and Alchevsk, made a video address.

Chief of Staff Yuri Shevchenko, Deputy Commander for combat training Pyotr Biryukov and Deputy Commander of Logistics Alexey Markov asked people not to “look for gossip or create it” on social media, television and radio, and to wait for the results of the investigation. According to them, the most basic scenario is subversive action by the Ukrainian military.

“Now there are a lot of different theories, but we ask you to follow common sense, and not spread crazy versions,” said Mozgovoi’s deputies.

In their address, the deputies also stressed that the Ghost team will continue to exist and fulfill its objectives. “Many of us are now calling for revenge. At the moment, we frankly say: we don’t know whom we should take revenge on, because this should never have happened,” they added.

It is a gift to die in May…

Aleksey Borisovich Mozgovoy

It is a gift to die in May—

An easy task to dig a grave,

And nightingales will sing their song

Inimitably, like their last.

In May, the thunder of storms supplants

A funerals’ dismal songs and sounds,

And rain that comes instead of tears

Dissolves the memories’ regret.

The shelt’ring barrow of the grave

Beneath the emerald of grass;

A cross is a redundant mark

Among a grove of weary birch.

Beneath the rustling newborn leaves,

With irrepresible thirst for life,

The sun has yet to burn the grass,

And every thing is animate.

It is a gift to die in May,

To stay behind in vernal dew.

And though I could not do it all,

There are no doubts where none remain…

It is a gift, to die in May…
